About Us
United for Women’s Leadership and National Progress
Founding Story
NeWMaP was launched in 1999 under Vice President Joe Demby and became part of the African-wide NAWMP in 2004. After being dormant for over a decade due to a lack of political and financial support, it was revitalised in 2023–2024 with support from CGG, Trocaire, Irish Aid, and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs. Today, NeWMaP includes female ministers, deputies, and MPs committed to implementing the GEWE Policy (2020) and Act (2022) and advancing gender equality across Sierra Leone.
Mission
To serve as a national platform to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment through enhanced leadership in governance, economic empowerment of women, a campaign against gender-based violence, and capacity-building of women and NeWMaP members in Sierra Leone.
Vision
A country where women and men enjoy equal rights and opportunities in all spheres of development.
