NeWMaP Strategic Plan 2025–2030 Validated: A New Chapter for Women’s Leadership in Sierra Leone

Freetown, Sierra Leone – In a major step forward for women’s leadership and gender equality, the Network of Women Ministers and Parliamentarians (NeWMaP) successfully validated its Sierra Leone Constitution-aligned Strategic Plan for 2025–2030, with support from the Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA).

The validation process brought together key stakeholders, including female ministers, deputy ministers, and members of parliament, to ensure that NeWMaP’s strategic direction aligns with national priorities, legal frameworks, and the broader goals of advancing women’s socioeconomic and political empowerment.

This initiative was made possible through the generous support of Trocaire and Irish Aid, who continue to champion efforts aimed at strengthening women’s participation in governance and decision-making processes across Sierra Leone.

About NeWMaP
NeWMaP serves as a vital platform dedicated to nurturing a supportive and collaborative community among female ministers and parliamentarians. Through this network, women leaders come together across political lines to share experiences, build capacity, and advocate for policies that promote gender equality and women’s rights.

The collective efforts of NeWMaP are geared towards:

Advancing women’s socioeconomic and political empowerment policies
Empowering local and national-level initiatives led by women
Fostering an enabling environment where women’s voices and leadership can thrive
By focusing on mentorship, advocacy, joint programming, and policy implementation, NeWMaP plays a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for all Sierra Leoneans.

Alignment with National Frameworks
The newly validated 2025–2030 Strategic Plan is fully aligned with the Sierra Leone Constitution (1991) , particularly Article 15 , which guarantees fundamental human rights and freedoms regardless of sex, and Article 8 , which emphasizes equality before the law and equal access to opportunities.

Additionally, the plan supports national development frameworks such as the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act (2022) , the National Gender Strategic Plan (2018–2023) , and the Medium Term National Development Plan (2019–2023) .

Looking Ahead
With a clear roadmap now in place, NeWMaP is poised to expand its impact by building stronger partnerships, increasing public awareness, and ensuring that women’s perspectives are integrated into every level of governance and policymaking.

CGG and MoGCA remain committed to supporting NeWMaP as it continues to grow into a powerful force for change — one that not only amplifies the voices of women leaders but also shapes the future of Sierra Leone.
